5 essential oil recipies to inspire you

on your mat and beyond

1. “Aum” blend


This is an anointing blend that I use before meditation to bring a deep sense of calm and peace. It adds an extra dimension in quietening the mind and aids in the creation of a sacred space. To make an anointing oil: 15-25 drops of essential (10 drops of Frankincense, 10 drops of Clary Sage, 5 drops of Myrrh, 5 drops of Cedarwood) top up a 10 ml roller bottle with FCO (fractionated coconut oil). Rub a few drops between palms, cup your palms and inhale deeply – also apply small amount to forehead/third eye chakra.

2. “Pranayama” blend


I use a diffuser blend to create an uplifting fresh aroma. This blend works well to support breathing. Juniper Berry and Grapefruit give a fresh, subtly sweet scent which is soothing and invigorating at the same time. Diffuse this blend anytime you feel a need for a sense of quiet strength and renewal. In a Petal Diffuser add 2 drops of Juniper Berry, 2 Grapefruit and 1 drop of Douglas Fir.

3. “Lakshmi” blend


Lakshmi is the goddess of good fortune, wealth and abundance. Wild Orange is in this blend as it is “the oil of abundance” both uplifting and energising. Into the mix we also have Geranium and Patchouli which give a floral musky lingering aroma. Patchouli is a base note oil so will “hold” and give depth to the blend. In a 10ml roller bottle add 15 drops of Wild Orange, 10 drops of Geranium and 10 drops of Patchouli – top up with FCO. Roll on and feel great.

4. “Durga Devi” blend


Durga is the Goddess of Empowerment, Time and Change. For the times you need to don your “big girl boots” or “big man shoes”. Ginger essential oil is in this blend - it is a Solar Plexus chakra oil as well as “the oil of empowerment”. This blend is fresh, spicy with plenty of “va va voom”. 7 drops of Ginger, 10 drops of Geranium and 10 drops of Bergamot -top up with FCO in a 10ml roller bottle. Apply on pulse points. Go rule the world*

5. Savasana

This is such a delicious treat to help the body as it comes back to balance after practice. I like to use the grounding oils to support this process. I rub the blend between my palms and allow students to inhale when they are in Savasana (hoovering my palms around 6 inches above face area), I lightly brush the forehead area so that there is a residue of the blend. This is my “go to” blend – 6 drops of Vetiver, 10 drops of Lavender and 10 drops of Clary Sage in a 10ml roller bottle topped up with FCO.
