Skin care and essential oils

Using essential oils in my skincare has been a game changer for me. You can see the effects immediately. Cleopatra used almond oil, rose, frankincense, cypress, neroli and myrrh essential oils in her skincare regime – no coincidence these are also all aphrodisiacs. There is evidence of oils being used over 5,000 years ago in ancient Egypt. 

I use a skin care range from doTERRA called Verage because it is jammed packed with key ingredients that your skin loves. The range promotes youthful looking skin and I can 100% vouch for it. First some pointers on understanding your skin – it’s the largest organ in the body and it acts like a sponge to all the lotion & potions that we apply. What you put on your skin is as important as what you eat. Artificial fragrances found in 90% of products can include any of 3,000 synthetic chemicals including potential hormones disruptors, neurotoxins and phthalates. It is important to know the ingredients list of the products that you use.

It is key to use top quality ingredients. Use quality essential oils that are sourced from expert growers committed to quality standards, 100% pure and contain zero artificial ingredients.

It is very easy to “pimp up” your cleanser, moisturizer or even face mask. No need to get expensive skin care products. Add a drop of one of the oils listed and see the difference.

  • Cleanser – melaleuca (tea tree), peppermint
  • Mature skin – frankincense, geranium
  • Oily skin – clary sage, eucalyptus
  • Puffiness – ylang ylang, roman chamomile
  • Discoloration – helichrysum, lavender

Please note do NOT use citrus oils in skin care. Citrus oil can increase skin sensitivity and are also phototoxic.

I also recommend you choose your carrier oil depending on your skin type

  • Apricot kernel, almond and olive – dry, ageing skin
  • Argan, hemp, jojoba and coconut oil (liquid) – all types
  • Grapeseed – oily, acne prone skin type

Moisturizing facial oil

Super effective and affordable. Choose a carrier oil dependent on skin type. Almond oil, argan oil and olive oil are “heavy” carrier oil so I suggest using them at night time.  Use an amber colour spray glass if possible, as essential oils are affected by sunlight/oxidation etc.

30 ml of carrier oil plus 5 drops of essential oil.

Add the essential oil for a fragrance that is noticeable.
